After playing with mushrooms as parachutes alongside the little white rabbit, the little hedgehog began picking red berries with its hands. Its mother saw this and told it to stop using its hands and instead use its spines to carry them. When the little hedgehog asked why, the mother replied, "My mother taught me this way, and my mother's mother taught her the same way." The little hedgehog wanted the bigger red berries from the tree. The mother tried jumping to pick them with her spines and shaking the tree vigorously, but the berries didn't budge. As she shook her head and started to leave, the little hedgehog leaped up and plucked the big red berry with its hands.
A woodpecker then alerted them to even larger fruits ahead. The little hedgehog and its mother arrived at a watermelon field. The mother thought she could carry a big watermelon home on her spines, but the watermelon was too heavy, and she ended up trapped beneath it. The little hedgehog panicked and began devising ways to rescue its mother.
