On Christmas Eve, Mickey (voiced by Walt Disney) and his loyal dog Pluto stand on a street corner begging. He plays a sorrowful yet melodious tune on his cello, politely nodding to anyone who tosses them a coin. Snowflakes drift from the sky, and the street is already blanketed in white. Pluto lets out a mournful howl toward the heavens while also trying to shake off fleas. Feeling they've collected enough money, Mickey takes Pluto to a butcher shop, only to find the jar filled with screws, nuts, and such. Disappointed, the master and his dog turn to leave. They stop to play in front of a wealthy household, but the resident only wants to buy Pluto. Forced to flee again, they even have their cello crushed by a passing carriage.
Just then, Mickey spots a family in even worse straits than his own. To help them, Mickey painfully decides to sell Pluto...
