As night falls, all is quiet. Inside a large house, a cheerful little boy sings a tuneless song to himself. Tonight, he and his older brother plan to sneak out of the house and, while the adults are unaware, venture into the wilderness to catch the legendary Moonbird. The older brother walks ahead, carrying a shovel and a birdcage, constantly reminding his younger brother to stay silent. But how could the little one possibly keep quiet? He chatters incessantly, continues humming, and even tries to snatch the shovel to dig holes. Even when his brother threatens to send him home, the little guy only quiets down briefly before returning to his usual noisy self. They hide in the shadows, waiting for their prey to arrive. As the two brothers bicker and make noise, they completely fail to notice that the Moonbird is already approaching...
This film won the 1959 32nd Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. The voices of the two little boys in the film were provided by the director’s own two sons.
