Based on the true story of two Mongolian girls, Long Mei and Yu Rong, from Damao United Banner, Ulanqab League, Inner Mongolia, who braved a snowstorm to rescue the commune's sheep flock. In May 1980, the film won the third prize at the 2nd China Children's Literature and Art Creation Awards.
Produced in the 1960s, this film reflects the values of that era: love for the collective and the courage to overcome difficulties. Long Mei and Yu Rong are two young sisters. One day, while herding sheep for the production team, they encounter a blizzard. Unable to withstand the fierce wind, the sheep scatter and run far away. The sisters struggle against the snowstorm while trying to round up the frightened flock. The snow falls heavier and heavier, and one sheep gets buried in an avalanche. While Long Mei digs through the snow to rescue it, Yu Rong and the sheep herd have moved farther away. During her own efforts to dig out a sheep, Yu Rong loses a felt boot without even noticing. She has only one thought in mind: she must protect the collective property. What ultimately becomes of these two young sisters on this violent, stormy night?
