Samson, the lion king of the New York Zoo, is the only animal in the zoo born outside its confines. He often boasts to the other animals about his wild experiences, but in reality, he was merely born in a circus, let alone having any true wilderness adventures. His father’s colorful tales deeply stir the young lion Ryan, who yearns to experience the wild for himself. By a twist of fate, an accident leads to Ryan being shipped off on a cargo vessel bound for Africa to release wildlife back into the wild.
Desperate over the loss of his son, Samson grows anxious and decides to lead a group of animals from the zoo to the African jungle in search of Ryan. How will these animals, once accustomed to a life of comfort in the zoo, cope with the fierce competition and law of the jungle in the wilds of Africa?
