Heavy Metal Entertainment has revealed grand plans for films and television shows as part of the Metalverse. Under its studio division, Heavy Metal Studios, the announcement was made during the "Forging the Future" panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday afternoon. Paramount will produce an animated film inspired by the sci-fi magazine "Heavy Metal," structured similarly to "The Animatrix," consisting of several short films. According to a report by Film School Rejects today, several renowned directors will join the project, each directing a segment. The news was shared by Kevin Eastman, owner of Heavy Metal magazine and co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He revealed that James Cameron will personally direct one of the animated shorts and serve as a co-producer of the film. Additionally, Mark Osborne, one of the directors of Kung Fu Panda, will direct a comedic animated short, once again featuring Jack Black's voice. Previously announced, David Fincher will also serve as a co-producer. Heavy Metal magazine was founded in the United States in 1977, specializing in publishing erotic and violent fantasy literature and illustrations. Many contemporary American artists and writers, such as Robert Silverberg, Harlan Ellison, and H.R. Giger, gained recognition through this magazine. In 1981, an animated film based on the magazine was released. According to the introduction, the planned animated film will consist of 8–9 independent short films, each directed by a different filmmaker. In addition to the three mentioned above, Zack Snyder, Gore Verbinski, and Kevin Eastman himself have already confirmed they will direct one segment each. Other directors will soon be finalized and announced. This animated film will primarily target adult audiences, with a planned R rating. Although no production company has invested in the film yet, with so many renowned directors on board, financing should not be an issue.
