"Mirror Stage" originally refers to the process proposed by French psychologist Jacques Lacan in which an infant becomes aware of the "mirror self." However, the mirror self is always an illusory reflection—the self seen through the eyes of others. The completion of the mirror stage, in a sense, signifies the formation of a solidified human identity. Using this as its theme, the film explores the reflection of reality on individuals and the intertwining of chaotic self-awareness within it. It depicts attempts to seek salvation in idealized memories and fantasies, yet humans are destined to bear the armor of identity. By the time they realize it, it has already become an unchangeable history, corresponding to the three stages of the mirror stage: chaos, ideal, and reality.
