All three of the [Sandy] films known to us—Lumière et ombre (1928), Prétexte (1928), and Essais cinématographiques (1928)—total barely over ten minutes in length, yet they attest to a distinct originality within the context of the French avant-garde of the 1920s. Sandy subtitled these films as "Visual Entertainment."
