A two-episode OVA released in 1992. It was sold on VHS and LD across two volumes (one episode per volume). A soundtrack CD titled "Symphonic Poem Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes Vol.2" was also released. The content is based on Chapter 1 of "Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes," but the characters, story progression, and other elements differ significantly from the game. Apart from some world-building and specific proper nouns, it is essentially a separate work. The anime also includes numerous original elements, such as Serios's special move "Chip-into-Dust Slash" and the fusion of Sonia with a dragon. Key contributors to these distinctive aspects of the anime are character designer (credited as "Original Character Design") Ken Ishikawa and screenwriter Kenichi Matsuzaki. Ishikawa, known for his violent manga style in works like the "Getter Robo" series, created a visual aesthetic vastly different from the original game's art. However, his style aligned exceptionally well with the anime's narrative flow, ultimately embodying the unique originality of the adaptation. Screenwriter Matsuzaki, an avid gamer (his passion later led him to write for PC Engine software "Advanced V.G." and adult PC games), reinterpreted the game's world and reconstructed its story and characters in his own way. The result was an extremely fast-paced and outrageous narrative, giving rise to the aforementioned "Chip-into-Dust Slash." According to press releases at the time, both Ishikawa and Matsuzaki played through the game before beginning their respective work.
