"The Boxtrolls" is adapted from Alan Snow's novel "Here Be Monsters" and is a humorous fable. "Cheesebridge" is a glamorous city in the Victorian era, where the residents are obsessed with wealth, social status, and stinky cheese! However, beneath their chic cobblestone streets lives a group of "terrifying" monsters who crawl out of the sewers every night to steal children and cheese from the residents' homes—or so the locals claim! In reality, the Boxtrolls are a group of very adorable and shy creatures who hide inside recyclable cardboard boxes, much like turtles retreating into their shells. The Boxtrolls adopt a human orphan, naming him "Eggs." This young boy befriends an adventurous above-ground girl named Winnie, and together they must build a bridge between the Boxtrolls and humans—especially when human politicians, in pursuit of votes, portray the Boxtrolls as terrifying monsters and incite the public to drive them out... "The Boxtrolls" is LAIKA's third animated film, following "Coraline" and "ParaNorman." It is co-directed by Anthony Stacchi, the director of the animated film "Open Season," and Graham Annable, a story artist on "Coraline" and "ParaNorman." The film features a stellar voice cast, including Ben Kingsley, Elle Fanning, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and others.
