Although over 20 years had passed since the previous series aired, this work was produced as a sequel in terms of setting. However, in reality, it begins by completely ignoring the depiction of Poron from the latter part of the previous series and incorporates the historical background from the late 1980s, making it more accurately a parallel world with sequel-like content. Released near the end of the retro boom, it gained popularity even among viewers who had watched the 1966 version, and like its predecessor, it enjoyed a two-year-long broadcast run. It should be noted that the characters in this work are not the later-described "Sally-chan legs."
