In the year 218 AD, during the Battle of Hanzhong, the Shu army struggled to capture Dingjun Mountain. Huang Zhong, leading three thousand weary soldiers, encountered Xiahou Yuan's army of five hundred thousand. He burned his own camp to cut off any retreat and joined forces with Yan Yan to set an ambush: luring and killing Xiahou Shang at Yangping Pass, and launching a surprise attack on Tiandang Mountain to slay Xiahou De. Faced with Xiahou Yuan's siege and hostage-taking, Huang Zhong devised a strategy to sow chaos within the Cao army's morale, ultimately defeating the enemy and securing victory, capturing Dingjun Mountain.
