The little duckling Quack (voiced by Red Coffey) reads the story of "The Ugly Duckling" and becomes deeply saddened, feeling that he too is an unattractive and unloved duck. The reflection in the water trembles with ripples, making his appearance seem even more unsightly. Heartbroken, Quack bids farewell to his good friend Jerry, deciding to end his miserable duck life. He tries various methods to commit suicide, only to be saved by Jerry at critical moments each time. Jerry does everything he can to make Quack realize what an adorable little duckling he is, yet the stubborn Quack remains trapped in the sorrowful mood of "The Ugly Duckling," convinced that he is hopelessly ugly. He continuously seeks death, even going so far as to offer himself to Tom, begging to be eaten. Tom, who is struggling to find dinner, naturally wouldn’t let a duck that comes right to his mouth slip away, but Jerry repeatedly ruins his evening feast...
