This work follows a pair of siblings who love mythology as they discover the currently most popular storybook, "Ancient Greek and Roman Mythology," on their father's desk, though they cannot understand the text inside at all. Upon learning that his children know nothing about it, their father begins to "tell the old tales." All the stories unfold through the interactions of this family. In ancient times, the God-King Cronus, fearing that his children would one day usurp his throne, swallowed them immediately after their birth. However, the compassionate Queen Rhea secretly replaced Zeus with a stone and entrusted him to a maid, who took him to a safe place—the island of Crete. As time passed, Zeus grew up and learned of his origins from the divine tree. He then journeyed to the dark Mount Olympus to rescue his siblings, who had been devoured by their father. Zeus arrived at Mount Olympus and, with the help of herbs given by Metis to induce vomiting, successfully rescued his brothers and sisters. Subsequently, with the aid of Rhea, Prometheus, and other gods who opposed their father's tyrannical rule, Zeus and his siblings united all opposing forces and successfully defeated their father and the allied Titan gods. Thus began a new era with the establishment of the Olympian regime, giving rise to numerous mythological tales that would be celebrated for generations to come.
