In the background, a dandy sits beside a table with a harpsichord, plucks a quill from above him—they fill the ceiling with quills—dips it in ink, ponders, then draws a straight line down the page before him. Out of it sprout six quills, each held by a hand. The Calligrapher moves all hands and quills in unison, drawing delicate feathered wings that come to life, peeling off the page, and now the quill slips from his hand. He tucks it behind his left ear.
