The story of "The Princess and the Frog" subverts the classic plot of "The Frog Prince" from the Grimm's Fairy Tales. Set in New Orleans, the birthplace of 1920s American jazz, Prince Naveen of Maldonia falls under the dark magic of an evil sorcerer and is turned into a frog. Mistaking a young Black woman named Tiana for a princess, he asks her to kiss him to break the spell. Unexpectedly, after Tiana kisses the frog, not only does the curse remain unbroken, but she herself also transforms into a frog. The two frogs then journey to the mouth of the Mississippi River to seek out an old witch, hoping she can lift the curse. Along the way, the prince and Tiana fall in love... Finally, during the wedding ceremony of the two frogs, the prince kisses Tiana, and the magic is broken. By marrying the prince, Tiana becomes a princess.
