After Pangu separated heaven and earth, a divine light emerged between the skies and the land. Nüwa and Fuxi descended from the heavens, and thus humanity came into existence. Nüwa molded humans from clay, mended the sky with molten stones, slew the black dragon, tamed the floods, severed the legs of the giant turtle to support the four pillars of the world, distinguished men from women, established marriage, taught farming and construction, and created all things. For her monumental achievements in creation, she is revered as the Goddess of Creation and the Primordial Mother of humankind.
