The millennial divine beast "Nian," a tyrant of space, boasts a sleek spaceship, red-ball guidance systems, and not only boundless magical power but also countless wondrous gadgets in its backpack. Yet, despite its primary life pursuit being gourmet food, the divine beast "Nian" hasn't had a single full meal in five thousand years. On New Year's Eve, while chasing a delicious space cabbage, "Nian" accidentally crashes to Earth, shrinking in size, losing all its magical abilities, and even having its vibrant colors bleached away. Xiao Wu, a Beijing girl watching fireworks on the street, gets hit by the falling "Nian" and, out of great affection, decides to take it home as a pet. In an attempt to shake off Xiao Wu, "Nian" repeatedly performs time-space transfers, only to find that no matter where it goes, Xiao Wu sticks to it like glue. Upon careful investigation, "Nian" discovers that when it hit Xiao Wu, a magical bond formed between them. Left with no choice, "Nian" reluctantly "condescends" to become Xiao Wu's pet. In order to return to space, "Nian" and Xiao Wu repeatedly travel back through history, searching for colorful energy blocks.
