To perform ancestral rites, Kang's family heads to their grandmother's house in Chungcheong Province. Their grandmother's home in Hobak Village is famous among the villagers for its hobakjeon (Korean zucchini pancakes). While busily frying hobakjeon, the grandmother realizes that Maeng-i, the family's only son and heir in five generations, has disappeared. Mother, Father, and Grandmother set out to find Maeng-i. Left alone, Kang-i encounters Samshin Halmeoni (the Birth Grandmother spirit) in the kitchen, who has kidnapped his younger brother Maeng-i. The fight between Samshin Halmeoni and Kang-i draws in the Kitchen God and the kitchen utensils. As the ancestral spirits of the Hoh family begin entering the house one by one to partake in the ritual food and confront Samshin Halmeoni, the situation spirals uncontrollably out of hand.
