The third anime adaptation of Shigeru Mizuki's yokai manga. In this series, Kitaro and many of his companions are already active from the very first episode. Perhaps due to the roughly 13-year gap since the second series, many episodes were remade. Another characteristic of this work is the introduction of the young girl Yumeko as a regular human character. As environmental destruction progresses and selfish humanity grows to disregard living beings, the yokai, acting as spokespersons for nature, manifest their anger. However, Kitaro and some other yokai believe in coexistence with humans and fight to protect them.
