The story takes place in the late Qing Dynasty, in a pawnshop called "Guandong Pawnshop" located on an ordinary street. Led by the shopkeeper Jia Dafang, the pawnshop team includes the waiter Duan Jiafu, the finance and odd-job girl Fengyatou, the bodyguard and cook Guo Detie, the outreach clerk Xiao Suozi, and the shop's guardian dog "Da Caishen." This group of people, each with distinct personalities—both pitiable and endearing—come together at Guandong Pawnshop, where they experience various risks and legends, taste the warmth and coldness of the world, understand family bonds and love, and witness the hardships and joys of life.
