The film tells the story of Tang Sanzang, sixteen years after his westward journey to retrieve the scriptures, discovering a heavenly conspiracy. He seeks to reassemble the westward expedition team to return the奇经 to the other shore. The master and his three disciples overcome numerous hardships as they embark once again on the westward path.
