"The Mermaid's Summer" is a family-friendly animated film particularly suitable for children under the age of 13. Through the stories of three children from different family backgrounds and age groups navigating the confusion of growing up, along with the themes of a grandmother's tolerance and care, the film conveys two core messages of family animation: one is the hope that adults will worry less, understanding that a child's growth requires more patience and waiting, gradually letting go to allow children to become more independent. The other is to convey to children an understanding of the world—through the grandmother, children learn that the world is like a kaleidoscope, filled with all kinds of people. Yet, it also expresses that although the world is diverse, much like a kaleidoscope, one should still believe in love and protection. The mermaid's summer is both Xiao Ai's summer and the grandmother's summer. In life's different choices—whether made by parents or children—each of us can only choose one path in the cycle of life, and thus we need the courage to walk it alone.
