"Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" (abbreviated as AOSTH) is the world's first animated series centered on Sonic, produced by the American DIC Animation and BKN, adapted from Sega's game Sonic the 2, and directed by Kent Butterworth. It premiered in the United States in September 1993 and aired on many television stations, though in most parts of the world, it was broadcast by the Disney Channel. The series consists of one season with 65 episodes (plus a 66th special episode), each approximately 22 minutes long, and is drawn in a classic American animation style. The story takes place on a planet named Mobius, home to many cheerful inhabitants. The evil Dr. Robotnik constantly disrupts the peace in his attempts to conquer the entire planet. Meanwhile, the teenage hedgehog Sonic the Hedgehog and his young sidekick, the two-tailed fox Miles "Tails" Prower, repeatedly thwart his plans and restore peace to the planet. The series features bright and vibrant colors, free from violence, explicit content, or bloodshed. Instead, it is filled with innocence, joy, laughter, exaggeration, and American humor, making it an utterly adorable cartoon. It once swept the globe, translated into various languages. Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Mainland China also have traditional and simplified Chinese versions, similarly broadcast on the Disney Channel. It is listed as one of the world's top five Sonic cartoons, which include: Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (the animated series), Sonic Underground, Sonic Boom, Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie (OVA), and Sonic X (Sonic X and Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie are the only two among the six major cartoons that are not American productions but Japanese works). Each episode is highly independent, though a few feature continuous storylines, such as the later plot where Dr. Robotnik uses a time machine to search for the four Chaos Emeralds. Every episode concludes with a short segment called "Sonic Says," which uses brief dialogue and scenarios to teach children important life concepts or moral ethics. It is simple, humorous, and highly educational.
