The tale of the titan Prometheus, who stole fire from Olympus for humanity and was severely punished by Zeus for this act: Prometheus' friend, the blacksmith Hephaestus, was forced to chain him to a rock, and each day an eagle sent from Olympus would devour Prometheus' regenerating liver. Yet, Prometheus' agony was not in vain—mankind preserved his sacred gift.
