The young laborer Little Tiger, working for the wealthy landlord Hu Guapi, endures beatings and scoldings all day long, and at night he must tirelessly fetch water. One day, he discovers a little boy wearing a red apron playing by the well, and the two become good friends. Seeing Little Tiger covered in bruises from the landlord’s beatings, the little boy gives him a large ginseng plant to help him repay his debts and gain freedom. When the landlord sees this ginseng, he concludes that the little boy must be a ginseng spirit. He presses Little Tiger for the origin of the ginseng and then forces him to lead the way to find the Ginseng Boy. Knowing the landlord has ill intentions, Little Tiger secretly goes that night to warn the little boy. However, just as he meets the boy, the landlord, who has been stealthily following, grabs the Ginseng Boy by his braid. Little Tiger lunges forward and bites the landlord’s arm, causing him to loosen his grip, and the Ginseng Boy vanishes into the earth. Enraged, the landlord pushes Little Tiger to the edge of a cliff. At that moment, the Ginseng Boy reappears, lures the landlord away, and then disappears into the ground once more. As the landlord digs a hole to search for him, the mountain rocks suddenly shake, and falling stones bury the landlord in the cave.
