He is a cat in boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas), who for years has roamed the martial world as a chivalrous hero, skilled in swordsmanship, bold and adorable. Though a wanted criminal hunted by the authorities, he has always remained fearless and composed. In a particularly unfriendly tavern, Puss in Boots learns that the notorious duo Jack (voiced by Billy Bob Thornton) and Jill (voiced by Amy Sedaris) have obtained the legendary magic beans. The beanstalk grown from these beans leads directly to the giant's palace, where resides the coveted goose that lays golden eggs. Determined to take a risk and steal the magic beans, Puss in Boots is thwarted by a mysterious black cat. Lured by the black cat, he arrives at a gathering place for felines, where he unexpectedly reunites with his old friend from the orphanage, Humpty Dumpty (voiced by Zach Galifianakis). The black cat turns out to be the seductive female kitty, Softpaws (voiced by Salma Hayek). 　　 Humpty Dumpty hopes to reunite with Puss in Boots to reform the "Magic Bean Gang" and obtain the golden egg-laying goose...
