The rulers of the time implemented policies of national betrayal and surrender, signing one unequal treaty after another, which reduced China to a colony of imperialism and ultimately brought disaster and suffering to the Chinese nation—a "national painful history." In 1934, the film received awards from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education of the Nationalist Government. It was the first Chinese animated film to win domestic awards.
