On October 10, 2010, My Little Pony officially launched Generation 4, "Friendship is Magic." Compared to previous generations, these ponies have a cuter, more chibi-like design. Generation 4 also introduced the alicorn for the first time. The main characters consist of seven ponies: the country pony Applejack, the gentle pegasus Fluttershy, the lively earth pony Pinkie Pie, the brave pegasus Rainbow Dash, the glamorous unicorn Rarity, the magical unicorn Twilight Sparkle, and the alicorn princess Celestia. Each pony has her own distinct personality, and they help each other, united in friendship and kindness.
