Crab Assistant and his son Crab Taro plant persimmon seeds given to them by Monkey Kichi in their yard. A large sprout emerges, grows into a tree, and bears many fruits. Seeing this, Monkey Kichi, noticing that Crab Assistant cannot pick the persimmons well, picks a basketful of fruits himself and runs away. When Crab Assistant chases after him, Monkey Kichi throws persimmons at him, killing him. To avenge his father, the young crab Crab Taro consults his three uncles: Chestnut Maker, Bee-no-Jo, and Mortar Hyoe. The three also promise to assist. They sneak into Monkey Kichi’s house while he is away, with Mortar Hyoe hiding on the roof, Bee-no-Jo outside the door, and Chestnut Maker behind a folding screen. When Monkey Kichi returns, he is startled by the chestnuts Chestnut Maker throws into the hearth, which burst open, and engages in a sword fight with Chestnut Maker. Bee-no-Jo joins in with his spear. As Monkey Kichi flees outside, Mortar Hyoe falls on his head from above, and Monkey Kichi has his nose cut off by Crab Taro. Crab Taro and his three uncles hoist Monkey Kichi on a spear and return triumphantly.
