In the early hours of April 26, 1986, the fourth reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near Pripyat, Ukraine, exploded. The initial steam explosion claimed two lives, but the harm caused by the high-energy radiation released during the accident was far more severe, with casualties remaining difficult to count to this day. In another spring, this time in 2008, the manga artist Emmanuel arrives by train to this place, preparing to venture deep into the exclusion zone. With her brush, she intends to document two months of her life on this land still bearing deep scars.
