On a winter morning, a little boy joyfully discovers that it has snowed. Overwhelmed with excitement, he quickly puts on his clothes and hat and rushes outside. The boy happily builds a snowman. He uses a piece of fruit for the snowman’s nose, lumps of coal for its eyes, and adds a scarf and hat given by his mother—a proper snowman comes to life. Urged by his mother, the boy returns home, but his thoughts remain with the snowman. At midnight, he tiptoes out to check on the snowman, and something unexpected happens: the snowman miraculously comes to life. A magical world awaits them, and the snowman takes the boy on an enchanting adventure. This heartwarming animated short, which has touched countless people, is adapted from the同名 work by British comic artist Raymond Briggs and was later adapted in China into the beloved "Snow Child." The film mimics the texture of colored pencils, creating a dreamlike and magical atmosphere in its hazy visuals. The story is as simple and beautiful as a fairy tale, yet it portrays the snowman—both still and alive—in a way that touches the depths of everyone’s heart. The film won the 1983 BAFTA Award for Best Children’s Programme and was nominated for the 55th Academy Awards for Best Animated Short Film.
