The story of "Magic Knight Rayearth" follows three girls—Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuuzaki, and Fuu Hououji—as the main protagonists. Attending different schools, they are unexpectedly summoned by a mysterious force to the fantasy world of "Cephiro" while on a joint field trip at the observation deck of Tokyo Tower. Their guide, Clef, who awaits their arrival, informs them that Cephiro is on the brink of destruction. The three girls have been summoned by Princess Emeraude, and they must defeat the high priest who has captured the princess, rescue her, and save Cephiro in order to return to Tokyo.
