Ma Xiaole is an elementary school student burdened with heavy schoolwork, and his father even invents an intelligent toy named "Big Head" to supervise him. Frustrated, Ma Xiaole accidentally encounters a magical elf called "Little Yellow Hat" and becomes good friends with him. Should he focus on studying or seek happiness? Big Head and Little Yellow Hat each use their unique abilities to engage in a rivalry. The film encourages children and parents to see things from each other's perspectives while watching—parents gain insight into their children's troubles while also revisiting their own childhoods together. In designing the plot and portraying the characters, the film strives to adopt a "child's perspective," speaking their language, thinking their thoughts, and soaring with them on wings of imagination into their dream world.
