Adapted from the novel of the same name by Dai Mingxian 　　 Red Guard Erniu goes to the farm school to collect forty saplings, but the forest farm provides one extra. Erniu's maternal uncle, Wang Guangxin, takes this extra sapling through Erniu's mother. Inspired by Grandpa Guo, the director of the Poor Management Committee, Erniu criticizes his mother and mobilizes his classmates to confront Wang Guangxin. They denounce his individualistic mindset, reclaim the sapling, and plant it in the collective orchard, where it bears abundant fruit. Through this struggle, Erniu and his young companions grow stronger and more resilient.
