Adapted from the story of the same name. The mess squad of the Changsheng Company in a certain unit of the People's Liberation Army is renowned throughout the entire army for its outstanding skills and solid expertise. However, whether their reputation matches reality still requires a test. One day, Li Shuqi, the head of the Mess Section in the Logistics Department, arrives at the mess squad. Adhering to high standards that emphasize difficulty, strictness, and practicality, Li takes the soldiers to the field for training and presents them with three challenges: digging a scattered-smoke stove, burning raw firewood and damp grass, and maintaining a fire without leaking light. Unexpectedly, after the drill, none of the tasks are accomplished successfully. Seizing this opportunity, Li points out to the soldiers that their culinary skills must meet the demands of actual combat and that they must never settle for the status quo by running a "peace-time canteen." A month later, as Li is about to leave, he encourages the soldiers to strive to become an excellent "frontline canteen" as soon as possible. Six months later, Li returns for another inspection. Will the comrades of the mess squad pass the assessment this time?
