This film introduces several artistic characters created by the puppeteer Yang Sheng through performances of puppet shows, along with his artistic creative life. In the end, Yang Sheng also performs "The Quarrel Between Husband and Wife" and "Forced Marriage." "Forced Marriage" depicts a playboy named Yan Shifan and his henchmen causing trouble at a temple fair. He takes a fancy to the modest and lovely Lu Yaoqin, and when his marriage proposal is rejected, he resorts to force to seize her.
