This art film is a puppet animation adapted from a Bai folk tale. The princess is lively and active by nature, growing very weary of the monotonous and rigid life in the palace. The king believes her words and actions are unbecoming of a princess and demands she stay in her chamber at all times. However, whenever she gets the chance, she sneaks out for a breath of fresh air, and in doing so, she meets a shepherd boy and a woodcutter, the latter of whom captures her heart at first sight. The prime minister is eager for his son to become the princess's consort. One day, he presents the princess with a golden phoenix crown and seizes the opportunity to propose marriage to the king on behalf of his son. The king agrees. Unwilling to let her happiness be destroyed, yet unsure how to resist, the princess is at a loss. The shepherd boy has a sudden inspiration, recalling a local custom of riding an ox to "bump into fate" for marriage, and shares his plan. The princess is overjoyed. Meanwhile, the prime minister and his son make thorough preparations, convinced that the princess will inevitably bump into their household.
