An elderly retired Russian general is plagued by nightmares of birds seeking revenge every night, so he carries an umbrella whenever he goes out to avoid disaster falling from the sky. The origin of this dates back to the Franco-Russian War of 1812, when Napoleon led his army into Moscow. The Russians adopted a scorched-earth policy and set fire to Moscow at night. The general ignited birds to spread the flames across the city, and ever since, the birds have been his sworn enemies. However, the general's fate takes a turn when he encounters a clever dog. Not only does the dog protect him from the birds' attacks, but it also suggests that making peace with the birds is the only permanent solution to his troubles. Thus, the dog and its master collaborate on a plan to free all the caged birds in the city. Awards: This film won the "Rotary Film Music Award" at the 2003 Venice Film Festival.
