An episodic narrative structure, with dark and oppressive visuals and storytelling, tells a perfect tale about totalitarianism. 1. Anna, a down-and-out woman, endures chaos, humiliation, and exploitation just to buy an apple. 2. Georg’s idyllic American middle-class life is disrupted by warships and change, turning the once-composed man into a blue-collar worker performing mechanical tasks. 3. Berta, a single mother who has lost her face, regains her features only after encountering someone who shares her plight. 4. Eduard, a tall man, grows shorter and shorter after a change in leadership at the top, and obtaining a visa is accomplished only under the protection of a plump maid’s skirt. 5. Breakfast on the Grass: The four who obtained the key finally arrive at the grassy field for a liberating picnic. The scene from the painting finally appears, but the brief outing soon comes to an end. A recurring character throughout all five parts is an unlucky painter, who ultimately has his left hand crushed and lies by the roadside, gazing up at the sky. Under high-pressure circumstances, personal freedom and liberation become so arduous and humiliating.
