I just watched this on the National Film Board of Canada site, where they have about 300 of their films available for your enjoyment. Having previously viewed and commented on a couple of shorts by animator Ryan Larkin, I was excited to see Street Musique featured on the NFB site twice—under both its French and English titles (otherwise, it's the same film). It begins with black-and-white live-action footage of a fiddle player and a mandolin player performing on a downtown sidewalk. Larkin then overlays abstract line drawings on a white background that evolve into images that are very hard to describe. He follows this with some watercolor-like images (at least that's what I believe they are) that are similarly abstract. All of this is perfectly synchronized to the music of the two street musicians, matching the drawings flawlessly. There's nothing more to say except that for anyone who loves abstract animation, I highly recommend Ryan Larkin's Street Musique.
