In the vast expanse of the universe, Earth is but a drop in the ocean. Throughout the endless river of history, the life of an individual human is like a fleeting spark. Yet, despite the brevity of life, emotions such as selfishness, anger, joy, jealousy, happiness, worry, sorrow, and fear continue to dictate human behavior. They are like slaves to life, driven and enslaved by the same things day after day, overlooking the true meaning of existence. Even after thousands or tens of thousands of years of evolution, this reality remains unchanged... This film took four years to complete, with over a thousand sketches, and was made without the use of any computer or digital technology—entirely crafted by director Don Hertzfeldt alone. It won the Audience Award at the 2005 Texas International Short Film and Video Festival and the Best Animated Short Film Audience Award at the 2005 Malibu Film Festival.
