On this day, a massive battle erupts between Tom and Jerry. Tom chases the little mouse all the way, driving him into a hole in the basement. Hiding behind cover, Jerry naturally won't let the enemy guarding the hole off the hook, so he fires a tomato using a mousetrap, then climbs to a high point and drops a large egg. Caught off guard by the sudden attack, Tom flees in panic, running every which way. Jerry, growing fiercer with each fight, lines up champagne bottles, sending their corks whistling like cannonballs toward Tom's head. Of course, Tom won't admit defeat so easily; he charges forward once more. But his opponent is so clever, having already devised various ingenious tricks to deal with him. Jerry even builds a tank out of a cheese grater to execute a beautiful defensive counterattack. Their battle gradually escalates... This film won the 1943 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, the first award ever received by the Tom and Jerry series.
