While meditating by the pond in the monastery, a monk's thoughts are disrupted by a fish leaping out of the water. He attempts to catch the fish, trying methods like fishing with a rod and using a net, but to no avail. The desire to capture the fish lingers in his mind, refusing to fade. After consulting books and scriptures, seeking help from other monks, and even lighting candles at night—all without success—he becomes nearly frantic. The monk and the fish engage in another struggle, with the fish leaping over the monastery, terraced fields, and rivers, while the monk follows closely. Throughout the process, he is only a hair's breadth away from the fish, yet fails to catch it. Eventually, he and the fish dance together into a void world.
