This animated film is a puppet animation, adapted from the historical legend of "Mei Jian Chi avenging his parents." The legend originates from ancient texts such as *The Annals of Wu and Yue*, *Records of the Strange*, and *In Search of the Supernatural*. Lu Xun also used this as the basis for his novel *Forging the Swords* (originally titled *Mei Jian Chi*). Gan Jiang and Mo Ye, master swordsmiths, had an apprentice named Heizi who killed the King of Chu's sacred ox during a bullfight. Enraged, the King of Chu ordered Heizi's execution. After listening to the slander of treacherous officials, the King of Chu decided to use Heizi's life to threaten Gan Jiang and Mo Ye into forging an invisible sword for him. Gan Jiang and Mo Ye spent three years, sacrificing Mo Ye's life, to create a pair of invisible swords—one male and one female—for the King of Chu. However, Gan Jiang, sensing impending disaster, presented only one of the swords and was indeed brutally killed. When the King of Chu sent soldiers to pursue Heizi, Xiaomei (another apprentice of Gan Jiang and Mo Ye), and young Mei Jian Chi (the son of Gan Jiang and Mo Ye), the three narrowly escaped. By the time Mei Jian Chi turned fifteen, he learned the truth of his parents' tragic deaths from Xiaomei and decided to avenge his parents and the common people of the world.
