This film won the 1932 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. 　　 In the early morning, the flowers, trees, and birds in the forest awaken from their slumber, stretching and grooming themselves, ready to spend a brand new day with fullness and joy. Naturally, the withered old tree stump also wakes up, but he finds nothing beautiful about life. As soon as he opens his eyes, he impatiently shoos away the flowers and birds around him. Seeing a male tree romantically courting a female tree, he forcibly pulls the female tree into his embrace without a second thought. The male tree, witnessing this, rises to challenge him, and the old tree stump is defeated. Unwilling to accept defeat, the old tree stump hatches a malicious scheme, only to find that he himself becomes the victim.
