Since Disney's 37th classic animated film "Tarzan," released in 1999, became a huge success, Disney Television Animation decided to adapt the story of Tarzan into a TV series in 2001, launching "The Legend of Tarzan" cartoon series. In 2002, a derivative work titled "Tarzan & Jane" was released directly on VHS and DVD. "Tarzan & Jane" actually compiles three episodes from the series, connecting them through a framing narrative. The story revolves around Tarzan and Jane approaching their first wedding anniversary in the jungle. Jane wants to give Tarzan a special surprise, and their animal friends Terk and Tantor, along with Jane's father, all join in to help her brainstorm ideas. When Jane considers hosting a party, she recalls a past visit from her close girlfriends (segment "British Invasion"). Later, she thinks of giving a gift but remembers an adventure where Tarzan nearly lost his life in a volcano while trying to retrieve diamonds for her (segment "Flying Ace"). Finally, Jane considers sharing a romantic dance with Tarzan but is reminded of a past incident involving an old British flame who arrived by plane (segment "Volcanic Diamond Mine"). After realizing that none of these surprise ideas seem feasible, Jane comes to understand that "wedding anniversaries" are a concept from the civilized world.
