An elderly couple, who had always been childless and deeply saddened by it, one day, the husband dug up a human-shaped tree root and gave it to his wife as a child for amusement. Unexpectedly, the human-shaped tree root actually came to life. Overjoyed, the couple named it Otik. Otik was clearly a child with a hearty appetite, constantly crying and demanding food. The elderly couple spent all their money trying to feed it, but it remained hungry and eventually caught and ate the family cat. After tasting meat, Otik refused all other food from then on, and proceeded to eat the postman who happened to enter the house, a passerby, and even the neighbors in the building. The old couple was both shocked and terrified, but faced with the ever-growing Otik, they were clearly powerless and could only let it devour them as well. Freed from all restraint, Otik walked out onto the street, and every living person and creature it encountered ended up in its bottomless stomach.
