One day, a little girl named Alice (played by Kristýna Kohoutová) is playing in her room when a rabbit bursts into her glass cabinet. Flustered, it changes clothes and hurries on its way. Alice follows this strange rabbit into a drawer and soon falls through a large water bucket into another world. However, this is not the Wonderland we know from fairy tales. The rabbit’s belly is stuffed with sawdust, and it needs to eat sawdust to replenish its energy. It also carries a large pair of scissors specifically for beheading; fish bones in the fish tank can bite; sock worms with false teeth wriggle around… Everything here is less fantastical and more bizarre, even somewhat cruel and dirty. Faced with unexpected threats, Alice explores and moves forward in this “wonderland.” Where will she end up, and what will she encounter? At the same time, she wonders—between this world and her own room, which one is reality, and which one is the “wonderland”… This film won the Feature Film Award at the 1989 Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
