A solitary shepherd, through his own efforts and decades of time, transforms a barren wasteland into vast forests, turning desolate hills into an oasis. *The Man Who Planted Trees* is a representative work produced by Mr. Frédéric Back in 1987. The animation’s script is adapted from the 1953 novel of the same name by French author Jean Giono. The entire film is filled with poetic narration. Rather than an animation, it resembles an exquisite prose piece—understated yet profound, simple in style yet rich in meaning. Narrative takes precedence over color and form as the main focus. In June 2006, at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, it was honored as the fifth greatest work in the "Century of Animation · 100 Films" selection.
